We are in Charge of the Planet. 9 класс

Тип урока: урок комплексного применения знаний, умений и навыков.

Цели урока:

1. Формирование коммуникативной компетенции учащихся по предложенной теме.

2. Способствовать формированию целостного представления о мире, об общих проблемах, стоящих перед человечеством в XXI веке.

Предполагаемый результат: ожидается, что в конце урока ученики озвучат те мероприятия, которые помогут предотвратить загрязнение и разрушение окружающей среды и природы.

Задачи урока:

Обучающие: 1. учить обсуждать проблемы по данной теме, выражать свое мнение по проблемам окружающей среды;

Воспитательные: . воспитывать у учащихся активную жизненную позицию,осознание роли человека во взаимодействии с природой; привлечь внимание к экологическим проблемам региона;

Развивающие: способствовать развитию аналитического , критического и образного мышления через использование проблемной ситуации и творческого задания, формирования навыков работы в группе. Умение высказать свою точку зрения на английском языке.

Оборудование: компьютер и мультимедийный проектор, доска, мультимедийные презентации, маркеры и ватманы.

Teacher: Good morning!The problem we are going to discuss is global and urgent. Look at the screen !Просмотр видеофильма, реальные факты экологических катаклизмов на планете.

So what are we going to discuss ?( уч-сяназывают предполагаемуютему)

J. Galsworthy, an English writer, said: «If you don’t think about the future, you will not have it». The topic of our talk show is We are in Charge of the Planet .

I’d like to introduce our guests in the studio:

· Scientists studying environmental problems;

· a representative of International Organization Greenpeace

· a representative of the local administration

· representatives of the ecological society of our region;

Teacher. Our environment is in danger nowadays. Today we would like to discuss the main ecological problems. We try to answer the questions: Is it possible to solve any problems? Is it possible to avoid any of problems? Please, be active in the discussion.

And now let’s give the floor to our scientists. (выступление 1 группы учащихся , выступление сопровождается презентацией)

1 scientist -For a long time people paid too little attention to the environment. Nowadays people understand how important it is to solve environmental problems. Water pollution, air pollution, nuclear pollution.Our Earth is our home. I’m upset because just now we see many polluted parts of our country. The seas are in danger. There is no ocean or sea which is not used as a dump. They are used for dumping industrial and nuclear waste. This poison kills fish and sea animals.

2 scientist I want to add. The Dead sea, the saltiest body of water of the earth , is becoming smaller and smaller because of decisions by people to use part of its waters.

The forests are in danger. The world has over 9 million sq.km. of forests. But they are disappearing fast not only because of fires. Every day we use paper and cardboard made from wood .Every year world industry pollutes the atmosphere with about 1000 million tons of dust and other harmful substances. Many cities suffer from smog.

3 scientist You are quite right .The ecological balance of the planet is disturbed.

Nowadays the world’s population is 6 billion.Most people are afraid that we will run out of land, energy and minerals.If we go on using our natural resources as quickly as nowadays we will use up all the resources by the year 2054. Every 10 minutes one kind of animals, plants or insects dies out forever. We use animals or their parts for jewelry, clothes, and cosmetics. We use thousands of animals every year for tests. But everything is limited! If nothing is done about 1 million species that are alive today will have become extinct 20 years from now.

( настолеяблокона блюде, нож) Imagine that the apple is our Earth. I shall cut the apple into quarters. Three quarters of the Earth’s surface is water and only one quarter is land.Only one - halfof the land is habitable . The rest of the land is the deserts, mountains , frozen ice caps and other places people cannot live . Only one fourth of the Earth’s habitable land is where all the Earth’s food come from. Imagine what would happen if this part of the world was damaged or destroyed ( съестьэтоткусочекисказать): So people could stay without any food.

Teacher: Excuse me. What do people of different countries do to save our planet ?

2 scientist Environmental protection is a universal concern of all people and all countries. That is why Russia is cooperating in the field of environmental protection with the USA, Canada, Norway, Finland and other countries. Only common efforts of all people, will help to stop further pollution of the earth.

Teacher:Certainly. But I want to notice that people are beginning to realize that environmental problems are not somebody’s else. They join and support various international organizations and green parties. One of them is Green Peace Organization.began in 1971 in the USA and Canada. Teacher: What could a representative of international organization Greenpeace say about it?

-Today Greenpeace includes more than 3,5 million members . Greenpeace message is “When the last tree is cut down and the last fish killed, the last river poisoned, then you will see that you can’t eat money.”

We organise public campaigns:

§ for preventing climate change

§ for the protection of oceans and forests

§ for the elimination of toxic chemicals

§ against the release of genetically modified organisms into nature

§ for nuclear disarmament and an end to nuclear contamination.

P1 What do Greenpeace think about the ecology in Yakutia?

The situation is very serious because of great fires in summer and cutting the forests/ Greenpeace urges you to protect the cedar forests of Russia and Yakutia.

The Arctic is also of great concern . According to Greenpeace, the largest number of landfills in the Russian Arctic is the territory of Yakutia — 149.

Teacher I want to say that there are 2 national parks Olyokminskiy and Ust-Lenski which protect the cedar forests of Yakutia. Thank you.

Teacher :We live in the beautiful region but it has got a lot of problems too. Let’s listen to the representatives of ecological society of our republic ( выступление 3 группы учеников спрезентацией )

1. Personally I am proud of our region. The nature is so beautiful here! I love our region. We call itYakutia.The flora of our region is rich and diverse. But the ecological situation in it is not very safe. Air and water pollution is high. There are no filters at factories and boiler-houses.

In summer the climate of our region is drier than usually; and every springand summer a lot of forests are in fire. Of course, the reason is man. It is awful! Trees, plants, animals and birds are in danger and may disappear.

2.Litter on the ground makes the towns look ugly. Empty bottles and cans are everywhere: on the banks of the rivers, under the trees, near our houses and on the roads. Due to the rapid development of gas and oil industries thousands of kilometers of roads and have been built. Thousands of wells have been drilled. Thousands of trees are cut out. Millions of tons of oil have got into the ground and water. The damage to the flora and fauna is great.

Teacher: Let’s pass to the problems closer to us. Problems devoted to the ecology of our settlement Vitim . Our settlement is situated in a beautiful place. It is surrounded by forests and rivers. People like to spend their free time fishing, gathering mushrooms and berries, having picnics. You’ll see some pictures of well-known places. ( Просмотрслайдов свидами поселка)

T: Do you like our settlement? Why?

T: But there are some ecological problems in our area. What are they? (....................)

Teacher :I have a question to the representative of our local administration.

What do you do to protect our unique nature?

Mayor: This problem is urgent. But it is difficult to solve it. Our administration alone can’t do anything because of shortage of financial support. For example, inhot summer and in spring people will cause great fires. We know it but there are no means to help this situation. Only people could help it, but at first they should change themselves.

Teacher Is it possible to avoid or solve any of the problems? (предложения по охране среды. Учащиеся высказываются о мерах, которые принимаются или должны быть приняты. Задают вопросы .)

Mayor I hope, you, students, can change this ecological situation. Take part in environmental activities, make environmental programmes in your school, and attract more public attention to these problems.

Teacher I suggest you to think and say if you are optimistic or pessimistic about our future? Take a green card if you are optimistic and a red card if not. ( ученикивысказываются, аргументируют свою точку зрения).

Teacher You say that litter is a big problem . But do you know how long litter lasts? Take the cards and fill in the blanks.

Teacher Dear friends, you are future engineers, scientists, workers, teachers, ecologists. You will continue addressing the environmental problems which concern everyone. The positive results depend on serious attention of the people of the whole world to this problem. What message would you like to leave for generations? ( You have 2 minutes to write/ You work in groups ) Place your message on the blackboard and say a few words to class.

Today we tried to summarize our knowledge on the topic “Environmental Problems” and to find out some ways how to save our planet Earth. I believe you’ll never pollute the environment, the place where you live. Our talk show is over.
